This Munnings plein air oil sketch of The Paddock Cheltenham, 1947, is an iconic view to any jumps racing fan! Capturing his innate ability to describe a moment in fluid brushstrokes, never wasting paint, Munnings was considered not only the greatest equine painter of the 20th century but also one of the finest British impressionists. This work showcases both, with the tightly painted central horse surrounded by the wonderfully sketched race contingent.
